Brazil CNPJ lookup API: official company record by CNPJ

Check a Brazilian CNPJ and get the official company record: legal name, status, start date, address and CNAE code. Check digits are validated first; pay per lookup, no subscription.

A CNPJ is the 14-digit number every Brazilian company is registered under. Supplier checks, onboarding and data pipelines need to know whether it belongs to a real, active company and what its legal name is. This lookup validates the check digits first, so a typo costs nothing, then returns the company record from the open Receita Federal data with its source.

The record has the legal name, trade name, legal form, active or closed status, start date, address, CNAE industry code and size class. Individual entrepreneurs (MEI), partner lists, phone numbers and e-mail addresses are left out on purpose: the lookup is company-level only. There is no name search for Brazil; the input is the number.

Use it from code (HTTP or the free MCP tool), in batches of up to 100 numbers in the Apify Actor, or inside the multi-country company lookup that covers Norway, Finland, Czechia, Slovakia, France, the UK, Latvia, Estonia and Poland by number.

Questions

Can I write the CNPJ with dots and slash?

Yes. 33.000.167/0001-01 and 33000167000101 give the same answer.

What happens with an invalid number?

The check digits are verified before anything is looked up, and an invalid number returns an error and is not charged.

Can I search by company name?

No. There is no open key-less name search for Brazilian companies, so the lookup is by number only.

Does it return partners or contact details?

No. Only company-level fields.

Is this an official extract?

No. It is informational and does not replace an official extract.
