Wikipedia summary API: lead-section extract by title

Get the lead-section summary of a Wikipedia article by title and language: plain-text extract, short description, canonical URL and last-edit time. Pay per call.

Agents and apps often need a short, reliable description of a thing. The call returns the lead section of a Wikipedia article for a title and language: a plain-text extract, the short description, the canonical URL and the time of the last edit.

The text is available under CC BY-SA 4.0 from Wikipedia contributors and must be attributed when you reuse it; the response carries the canonical URL for that purpose.

The calls

Each call returns 402 with the price until a payment is attached; an x402 client pays and retries automatically. Calls that fail are not charged. See Get started and the guide for bots and agents for code.
