What you get

A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT and CNAME records
Whether SPF and DMARC records are present, with their policies

Not returned: Zone transfers, private records and DKIM keys (they need a selector name).

Questions

Which resolver is used?

Ordinary public DNS resolution from our server.

Is anything sent to the domain owner?

Only ordinary DNS queries, the same as any resolver.

Why do results differ from my machine?

Caches, split-horizon DNS and geo-routing can give different answers in different places.
